Friday 25 January Ramble – Update
January 25, 2013 — Headless” The remarkable thing we have is a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past… We cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude.” – Charles Swindoll
Sorry for the slow posting folks, but between broken fingers, splints, pain, messed up head, pain, and sleeplessness, and visitors time doesn’t take long to consume what spare time you have.
So Friday – well was instructed on Thursday night to return to the clinic to have the cast checked on Friday. It should be about 5 – 10 mins max. So call Dad and he comes and collects us all. Head in there – 25 mins later they eventually see me. And decide straight away that the cast is wrong and also as I have a spiral break (the bone has not fractured straight through more it has peeled around in a twist pattern. So the break needs to be placed under tension to allow it to heal correctly. OK- you can say it now – typical Tony, nothing straight forward or medically normal there!! consequently they proceed to cut me free of the old cast and set about placing a splint on to the hand.
This procedure should be straight forward, but nope. This is where they break my finger again – unintentionally – for the first time. 2 Nurses pressing down on the broken finger and the splint trying to bend the splint = crack – ouch. One of the nurses then realizes that they just broke my finger again. The other though is that focused that she doesn’t realise what she has done at first. It was a few mins later that she asked why the other lady had stopped, and she told her. Well, talk of a thousand apologies. It didn’t matter as it wasn’t too bad. They get the head of the bone clinic to have a look and it is not right so back to starting again. Another hour gone.
Have Sue contact Dad about getting the boys sorted and coming back to get me later. Back to breaking the finger again – but no pain killers as promised – oh well – suck it up. They get it right this time after another 40 odd mins of pull push and shit. Starting to get over this really. In for another X-Ray and this time they are happy. Quick nurses – tape it up and let me loose – please – I need pain meds and my other drugs. Nope lets disappear then for the next 30 mins and reappear like it is some magic trick. Sue arrives just as they are dressing the wound, and finally I get released. Only to be told that I need to come back on Monday and go through it all again, including having the finger broken again if needed. Bloody hell!!! This is taking the piss.
Home then just in time for a conference call. Survive that then head to bed for a 30 min nap – wake about 2 1/2 hours later. Sue has taken Lachie to indoor, and Jacob is taking care of me. G, Lisa and boys arrive then, great to see you all. Then Sue and Lachie get home just as Glen, June and Nicole arrive too. Having a BBQ catch up dinner – as we haven’t together for a fat chat, etc, for years. The kids all play together fantastically, and we have a great time catching up with everything, and decide that we must do it again really soon.
Everyone heads off about 10:30ish and get down to cleaning up. All done – absolutely exhausted though. Flag the blog for the day, do M&D time still. Head for bed. Sleep takes a while to kick in, but does in bits and bobs. A bit of a slow day really. Hope everyone had a great Friday (and pain free). Take care. Will post Saturday later.
